Site notes The COMPS Fred Howard Park Coastal Station is physically located at 28° 09.195' N (28.153°N) and 82° 48.069' W (82.801° W), on the southwest corner of the second causeway bridge leading out to Fred Howard Park beach. Mounted on the seawall cap is an instrument tower housing: Wind Speed/Direction, Relative Humidity/Air Temperature, Barometric Pressure, and Precipitation sensors. Marine instrumentation includes: Water Level, Temperature, and Salinity. Data is hourly transmitted via the GOES satellite. Site funding is via a cooperative effort between the University of South Florida's/College of Marine Science's COMPS program, the State of Florida's Emergency Management Preparedness and Assistance Trust Fund, Pinellas County and the Pinellas County Park System, and the Tarpon Springs Office of Emergency Management. This site became an operational COMPS coastal station on 6/25/2004.
